Famend for her lucid, accessible prose, Epp explains advanced, summary concepts with readability and precision. This guide presents not solely the main themes of discrete mathematics, but also the reasoning that underlies mathematical thought. Students develop the power to think abstractly as they study the ideas of logic and proof. While learning about such concepts as logic circuits and PC addition, algorithm analysis, recursive considering, computability, automata, cryptography, and combinatorics, college students discover that the ideas of discrete arithmetic underlie and are essential to the science and know-how of the PC age. General, Epp's emphasis on reasoning supplies college students with a strong foundation for laptop science and upper-level mathematics courses.


This is in all probability one of the best texts on discrete math, and the writing and applied approach over the purely proof presentation of the topic is outstanding. When my daughter was taking PC science I handed her this textbook as a reference, and it proved its value.

Epp's coverage of proofs and induction will not be my favorite. However her presentation is outstanding. The visuals and applied examples are simple to follow and actually drive the material home.

Especially for graph theory. She hits on the subject material with sufficient depth to give the scholar a stable foundation and a transparent understanding. Quantity concept protection is just not as in depth as some books. Analysis of algorithms is better than most texts especially most computer science texts.

Total this is a great textbook as an intro and even beyond, and it makes a great reference e-book after the course is done.
